ICAEL

echo1Currently ICAEL (Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories) is the only accrediting organization offering Echocardiography Accreditation.

The Accreditation Process with ICAEL

ICAEL provides laboratory accreditation specific to echocardiography testing.  Accreditation is offered in the following testing areas:

• Adult Transthoracic

• Adult Transesophageal

• Adult Stress

• Pediatric Transthoracic

• Pediatric Transesophageal

• Fetal Echocardiography

ICAEL accreditation is made up of two crucial steps.

1. Self-evaluation using the ICAEL Standards

Staff members are encouraged to make any necessary changes to the laboratory’s operations to ensure at a minimum, substantial compliance to the Standards before proceeding to completion of the application.

2. Completion of the application and submission of actual case studies for review

The case studies and final reports are crucial in determining the laboratory's compliance with the Standards, and are the basis for judgment of the quality of work that laboratories perform.
