Nuclear Medicine is an advanced imaging modality and accreditation is required under the new MIPPA CMS requirement that becomes effective on January 1st, 2012.
All providers of Nuclear Medicine (that bill under Part B of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule) must be accredited by January 1st, 2012 in order to receive payment for the technical component of these services. Currently, the CMS/MIPPA mandates apply to private outpatient facilities only, NOT to hospitals.
