Aortic Stenosis: Imaging Reliability, Principles, and Pitfalls

1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™

Before you trust the numbers in aortic stenosis, can you trust the images, measurements, and Doppler signals behind them?

Aortic stenosis values can appear accurate even when the acquisition behind them is not. This practical echo based CME course focuses on the imaging, measurement, and Doppler decisions that determine how much confidence you can place in an AS assessment.

You’ll work through a practical echo-lab approach to evaluating LVOT image quality and measurement, PW Doppler sample placement, CW Doppler alignment, and confirmation of the highest aortic jet velocity from multiple windows.

By the end of the course, you’ll be better prepared to identify unreliable inputs well before they become over-trusted numbers.

On completion you will be able to

1
Identify imaging and Doppler choices that affect AS assessment reliability.
2
Recognize LVOT imaging, diameter, and PW Doppler limitations that reduce confidence in calculated AVA.
3
Apply CW Doppler window-search strategies to confirm the highest aortic jet velocity.
4
Determine when imaging or Doppler limitations should be communicated when AS parameters do not fit together.

Who this is for

Designed for cardiac sonographers, cardiologists, fellows, interpreting physicians, and echo lab leaders involved in aortic stenosis image acquisition, measurement review, interpretation, or reporting.
