Frequently Asked Questions
IAC stands for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. IAC grants accreditation to facilities that demonstrate quality testing practices in diagnostic imaging performed in physician practices, clinics and hospitals throughout the United States.
- Prior to 2008 the IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) practiced under divisions based on modality.
- Each division had its own name. ICAVL for the Intersocietal Commission of Accreditation for Vascular Labs, ICAEL for Echo Labs, ICANL for Nuclear Labs.
- The IAC has now incorporated all of its divisions into one organization.
Although not a condition for reimbursement many hospitals seek accreditation to:
- Demonstrate their commitment to qualtiy patient care
- Stand out from their competition
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement
Medicare requires accreditation for any out-patient facility that performs Advanced Diagnostic Imaging which includes:
- PT
- MRI
- Nuclear Medicine
Currently some insurance companies required accreditation in echo and vascular as a condition for reimbursement but this changes from state to state.
