It’s October, time to celebrate Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM 2020)! It’s the time of year when we promote public awareness of ultrasound and the vital role ultrasound plays in healthcare. And of course, celebrate how incredible sonographers are!! CardioServ recognizes and appreciates the role of each and every sonographer – Thank you!
This year is not like other years! Due to COVID, many of you were, and still are, frontline healthcare workers during this pandemic. The public has embraced celebrating Healthcare Heroes. Many acknowledge the extraordinary efforts made by healthcare workers to treat and care for their patients and communities. We have seen nurses and doctors receive praise for their efforts, as they should, yet many do not understand the role sonographers play during these challenging times.
Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM 2020) is a great time to stop and recognize the role sonographers play within healthcare. Especially the services they provide as frontline workers during COVID19.
Sonographer Heroes – Ultrasounds provide vital diagnostic information required to better treat patients. To perform an ultrasound exam sonographers are required to stand extremely close (body to body), during the entirety of the exam. During a pandemic like COVID, close contact to patients can place sonographers at risk for exposure.
During the early months of the pandemic, PPE was hard to come by. Many feared for their own health and safety but continued to provide compassionate care to their patients.
